- The Egmont Overture commissioned for a play by the same name by Johann Wolfgang van Goethe. Composed during the Napoleonic Wars, Beethoven used this piece to express his political opinion against Napoleon's oppressive government.

- Anchorage audiences may remember Zach DePue as a founding member of the jazz trio, Time for Three. He returns to the Atwood Stage to perform Dvorák's Violin Concerto, a masterpiece from his Slavic period.

- An undeniable trailblazer, Florence Beatrice Smith Price's Symphony No. 1 was the first symphony by an African-American woman to be performed by a major American orchestra (Chicago Symphony Orchestra, 1933).
