Join your Anchorage Symphony Orchestra at the 52nd Annual Champagne Pops as we kick off our 74th concert season and pay tribute to the Queen of Soul  -  Aretha Franklin!

Raised in Detroit, the home of Motown Records, Aretha’s career spanned over sixty years and forty albums with twenty No. 1 singles and eighteen Grammys. The gospel singer turned Queen of Soul sold over seventy-five million albums with hits like “I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)”, “Chain of Fools”, and “RESPECT.”  Notable moments of Aretha’s career include her film debut in The Blues Brothers, being awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom, singing at three Presidential Inaugurations and becoming the first female inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.  Now there is an artist to R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

Capathia Jenkins Bringing these soul classics to life is Champagne Pops’ veteran and favorite Capathia Jenkins. Capathia’s critically acclaimed release of  her 2018  album Phenomenal Woman the Maya Angelou Songs is among Ryan Shaw many accomplishments for this incredible talent who has  delighted Champagne Pops audiences in her prior engagements wi th us.  Making his Alaska debut, R&B vocalist Ryan Shaw joins Capathia on stage with his sultry sounds that captivated audiences during his appearance on America’s Got Talent. Nominated for three Grammys for his R&B vocal performances, Ryan was a fitting choice to portray Stevie Wonder in Motown the Musical’s premiere on Broadway in 2013.
Champagne Pops Table In addition to world-class entertainment, fine food and champagne, this exquisite evening features a brief live auction and our traditional Baton Drawing in which one lucky guest will conduct the ASO. Proceeds raised at Champagne Pops fund the ASO’s Music for My Neighbors programs that provide free tickets to ASO concerts, free Coaching in Schools for band and orchestra students, our Annual Free Neighborhood Concert, and free bus transportation for the 7,000 students who attend Young People’s Concerts each season.

Champagne Pops is a great way to socialize with friends, entertain clients, or show employee appreciation while also celebrating the beginning of your Anchorage Symphony’s  74th season and raising funds for our great community programs.

Champagne Pops is a highly popular affair with a reputation of excellent music and fine fare. We often hear it is a favorite gala of the year and attendees are known to book a table for the next year's Champagne Pops the Monday after the event! With a history of selling-out, you don't want to delay in reserving your table.
