The Cheechakos
OCTOBER 5, 2019 - 8pm

Watch

An engineer saves a shipwrecked girl from a gambler in this dramatization of the lives of Alaskan settlers. The Cheechakcos was the first feature filmed entirely in Alaska and the only film by Cap Lathrop’s Alaska Moving Pictures Co. According to the University of Alaska Fairbanks Rasmuson Library Alaska Film Archives, “the film boasted Alaska cast members and spectacular location shooting that vied with the best Hollywood productions.” In 2003, The Cheechakos was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
