Twenty years ago Anchorage met up-and-coming conductor Randall Craig Fleischer who was chosen to lead the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra as its music director. On November 10th, our community celebrates this partnership and the creative musical adventures we have taken together at the Anchorage Symphony’s concert, Echoes

Silent Film Night Silent Film Night
It’s an evening of Silent Film giants! In 2006, Anchorage Symphony Music Director, Randall Craig Fleischer, introduced Anchorage audiences to Silent Film Night, with Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights projected on a screen above as ASO musicians performed the score live. Since that first night of laughter, ASO Silent Film Night has become a family favorite. On January 12th (8pm), in celebration of Fleischer’s 20th season with us, the ASO will screen not one, not two, but THREE classic comedies in the Atwood Concert Hall.

AS BugThank you!
Thank you to all who helped make Champagne Pops 2018 a success! Those who attended made it a memorable tribute to Frank Sinatra and a wonderful evening of friends, music, food, and of course…fundraising.

For the 2018/2019 season Musica Nova has commissioned Mateo Messina to compose a piece fitting for the people of Alaska. Best known for his film and TV compositions including a Grammy win for Juno in 2008, Messina’s distinct, moving and sometimes quirky musical voice has delighted audiences of the screen as well as in the concert hall.

RandyMessage from the Maestro
The journey of education and discovery that I was privileged to take because of the commission to write what became Echoes, is one of the most satisfying and rewarding chapters of my musical life.  Steven Alvarez (ASO Principal Percussion) was working at the Alaska Native Heritage Center which had a dynamic and fruitful partnership with several other organizations and museums entitled ECHO (Education through Cultural and Historic Organizations.
